  4. Yes, there's evidence of regular canabis use (roll-ups, filters, envelopes, grinders etc) and reports of dealers. There's also evidence of extreme anti-social behaviour (criminal damage and dog muck bag slinging), suggesting certain individuals are getting stoned. The Youth Club have said that a certain individual reeks of the stuff.
  5. The BBC television drama series “Doctor Who” is 50 years old this autumn. To celebrate his birthday Oswestry Town Market in association with Community-Online are giving YOU the chance to win an exclusive Doctor Who t-shirt featuring a caricature of your favourite Doctor. 11 caricatures of all the Doctors with quotes will be displayed close to the cafe, upstairs in Oswestry Town Market from early November. Regular Community-Online users will have seen the caricatures and quotes as my avatar throughout 2013. Can you identify from what Doctor Who stories each of the eleven quotes come? If you can, write your answers on a postcard or sealed down envelope and send them to the address below along with your t-shirt size (S, M, L, XL, XXL), the Doctor you want printed on the shirt and your own name and address. Chirk Sponsored Walk, Chirk Castle Walkers are being invited to put their hiking boots on and register to take part in a sponsored walk which is being held on Sunday 6th October to raise money for the Oswestry Bone Cancer Centre Appeal. This is an Appeal to help fund a new £2 million Bone Cancer Centre at the specialist Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen, to treat patients in a bespoke careing environment. The new purpose designed Centre will be near to the main hospital entrance and built to the highest standards. These much improved facilities will include en-suite rooms, treatment areas and a garden reflection space. The walk begins and ends at Chirk Castle, courtesy of the National Trust. It is about 10k (6 miles) long and follows lanes and footpaths in and around the grounds of Chirk Castle. The walk starts at 10.30am. 8. I've heard on the grapevine that applications for funding for community projects through UnLtd via SRCC are down. There's something about how to go about putting in an application and the different types of awards available in the autumn 2013 issue of the Selattyn & Gobowen Parish Roundabout. This will be online here when I've finished putting it together.

  15. I will be attending a meeting with Access next Tuesday morning from 10.30am at the Memorial Hall in Oswestry. I'm going to try and persuade them to look at the Gobowen and Whittington Roundabouts along the bypass in regard to people with disabilities (sight, hearing, mobility) to see what challenges they face getting to town other than by car or bus.
  16. ...by the way, do you know how I can get hold of a hand held speed camera (and please don't say "use your hand")?
  17. I'm currently looking into safety issues for people with disabilities crossing the main Gobowen Roundabout on the A5 and at traffic levels on said road in general. This is really to see how cut off the people on this side of the bypass are from Oswestry. I have a feeling my research is more within the range of the Highways Authority than the parish council.
  18. ...and, is this Mal Price of the Planning Department the guy working within Shropshire Council that I should talk to regarding the situation between the purchase of the old Oswestry branch railway line and the plan to create a walking/cycle route?
  19. @Maggie I notice you've posted an image in the Gallery of the petition being handed to Mal Price and the same photograph appears in the Tizer this week. How did you organise that (did you invite the press and Mal to a pre-arranged point especially to take the picture)?
  20. I would like to borrow a portable (hand held) speed camera. Does anyone out there own one or suggest an organisation that I will be able to borrow one from? Many thanks.
  21. Did any of you see the small article headlined "Hill fort housing 'would aid tourism'" on the cover of The Chronicle dated August 22nd? In it Shropshire Councillor Cabinet member Mal Price who has responsibility for planning is reported as saying that any new housing around the base of the hillfort would provide extra access to the site off Gobowen Road and that it would be consistant with the odjectives of the new 'Oswestry 2020 Town Plan'.
  22. Duncan and Maggie are managing a smile, the councillor too! (I wonder what he's thinking...)
  23. Right.... In that case there is a booking process as you'll be borrowing the tennis nets. Again, you'll need to contact the Parish Clerk and again, they are free to use it's just a case of arranging the time.
  24. You'll need to speak to the Parish Clerk (on here), but as I understand it use of the MUGA is free. Just go down there and knock yourself out.
  25. Cycle Oswestry Gently (COG) Rides are easy-paced social bike rides for families, beginners and anyone else. Last Sunday of every month, from Wilfred Owen Green, behind the station, in Oswestry, at 11 am. Email info@vel-os.co.uk or call Oswestry 658298 for more details.
