  1. This evening no less than 3 police vehicles (including van and 5-6 burly policemen), Fire engine and full crew and 2 female RSPCA officers in 2 vans came into Gobowen (1 Old Whittington Road) and the outcome was the arrest of John Spicer (Barefooted, for cruelty to animals) and the seizure of his 2 dogs. On top of this a team of 2 boarding up specialists came from Shrewsbury to secure the premises with ,GET THIS, two pozidrive screws holding door to frame... You get less response than this from the authorities if your house was burgled or somebody was reported for mistreating their children. I would like to know the exact cost of this operation and who foots the bill... We all know that mistreatment of animals is not on but anybody that knows John (Im sure youve all seen him around the village with his dogs) sees just how much he loves those animals and would not purposfully mistreat them under any circumstances. Yes the one dog is very long in the tooth (15-16years)and shows extreme signs of old age but the other younger dog is in exceptionally good health. Surely there are other ways...

    Fish Tanks...

Quite an unusual request but im looking for any old fish tanks (Tanks only, no heaters, lighting or equiptment) that i could utilise for the breeding and rearing of Tropical Fish. I have a 45 tank fish room but wish to expand.
  3. I will pop down on Wednesday evening to take a look at what my children are getting up to and i will certainly offer my services when possible. After all with 4 children attending i think its only fair i do my bit to help out a little.
  4. Read in the Shropshire Star that the Green Room are having a Wellie Wanging evening on Wednesday. Two categories for 11yrs and under and Over 11s... My children are really looking forward to this, especially as its in a week when they head back to school after the holidays.
  5. It seems that the group of local youths who regularly congregate in the woods to light fires and "Pass the kouchie" are becoming more brazen with their antics. Just last weekend the local plod were called by elderly residents in Foxes Field as the group had earmarked the grassed area near the Whittington Road entrance as the venue for their latest Pow-Wow. The natives had constructed a fire, the likes of which Ray Mears would have been proud, but fortunately didnt light it. They were breaking trees and openly passing around the peace pipe in view of the elderly residents. Unfortunately the group had departed the scene prior to the polices arrival:( Whatever next...? Construction of a Totem Pole on the Roundabout.
  6. It seems that posting here is more productive than picking up the phone to the authorities...Soon after the posts were made a vehicle was actually removed from Fernhill Lane.Is this a mere coincidence?
  7. A big Well Done to all the Team at the Green Room... All my children enjoyed the event. In particular my youngest son who came home thinking he was Usain Bolt, proudly displaying a gold (Chocolate) medal.
  8. I dont think anybody was blaming the parish council for both the childrens and my own frustrations. This was certainly not the case in the above post....Now that the financial implications have been mentioned as the main reason for not opening on the 2nd Weds in the month it is easier for the children to understand why they cannot attend.
  9. Not sure if they are to be removed or not... They seem to have become permanent residents. Ive walked in the Meadows recently with my kids and been up to the horses to stroke them without incident BUT you can see that some are more timid and some more aggressive than others. Im not surprised you were charged at... On the positive side the string are actually doing a good job of keeping the flora/vegetation in order which is generally left unmanaged by the land owner.
  10. Tried to Message you Simon but unable to do so... Perhaps your inbox is full. Mark...
  11. Thanks for the link... I know the untaxed vehicles in Fernhill Lane have previously been reported by local residents using the DVLA website, again it seems to no avail.
  12. Any luck with building on your ideas Sophie? My children and i would be more than willing to help out with such a project... I regularly spend 4 weeks in October each year visiting the Peruvian Amazon where i stay with the locals and study/collect tropical fishes and their natural habitats. I regularly give presentations about my adventures and would be happy to help out if your ideas come to fruition.
  13. Hi Im Mark... Single parent of 4 who has lived in Gobowen for almost half a century now. Boy has it changed since i was a nipper but i still feel its a great place to live.
  14. The locals have called the local constabulary/authorities many times but feel very let down indeed. The vehicles are not displaying valid tax discs and IF untaxed are most likely uninsured.... Today we have one up on bricks/tyres with one of Idrys Roberts old trailers parked behind it. Its looking more like Chapmans scrapyard than a residential area.
  15. The attack happened late Fri afternoon/teatime in the playing fields by a Black Lab which was not on a lead. The two black labs in question are never on leads, even when being walked on footpaths in Gobowen, and the younger dog has a tendency to be a little excitable which can frighten young children. Although the bite was not too serious the fact that the lady didnt ask about the little lads wellbeing is outrageous IF she was aware that the boy had been bitten. PM sent to Stacey....
  16. The parking of often untaxed vehicles, usually on bricks, in Fernhill Lane is not only illegal but a constant eyesore. Theres one actually parked there today.... I know the locals have complained to the authorities many times without any action being taken. If it happens in a large town or city, or even just over the border in Chirk or Plas Madoc, the vehicles are removed from the streets so why not in Gobowen?
  17. At the moment The Green Room Youth Project is open every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm except for the 2nd Wednesday of the month when the pavilion is usually used for a parish council meeting. Being the parent of 4 children, all under the age of 16,who regularly attend the Green Room i frequently see their disapointment when the Youth Project is unable to open on the 2nd Weds in the month. Having looked on the Parish Council Website i now also find it frustrating to see that the children are missing out when in June, July and August the council meetings are not being held in the pavillion. Surely some sort of dialogue can be made between the council and the Green Room so that the youngsters of Gobowen dont regularly miss out, especially during the winter months.
  18. Apologies for dragging up old posts but new here but feel i have to comment. News on the grapevine was that the "Little scamps" actually turned out to be an adult. Its a shame that the youngsters, who in my opinion do a good job, generally get the blame when issues such as this arise.
  19. It seems that the lad in question is still using the playing fields/woods as a trials track. He has been spotted again over the past fortnight with his younger 4 yr old brother as a pillion which is extremely hazardous. We all know who he is, can nothing be done before a serious accident occurs?
