  1. Ok all , these seem hard to come by, usuallay by the school in th 50,s or top house, even earlier.Anybody got any more. Nev Hurdsmans books are great but are still limited. It would be grand to have a few more, maybe set up a village pictorial, if that is the right word.Must adit I have not got the computer skills to publish them, but would be well willing to help collate Cheers
  2. Ok all, councils are talking of removing street lighting at night.Three yrs ago I reported a light on , most of the time , not all, in old chirk road.Parish and county both denied owning it, I now have Owen Patterson on the case and he has indeed found the parish own it, and they have been informed.Yet it is still on. One parish councillers has supported me all the way, what needs to be done to get this light working correctly.this may seem trivial but how much have we all paid to have this light burning over the last 3yrs.Please parish council, sort it out. Ta
  3. I am disappointed, I thought there would have been a greater response to this issue, let's hope people turn up to the meeting Cheers
  4. I see there is a petition in the Top Shop ,when the new health centre opens in chirk next year , the surgeries in the institute will finish. How are elderly and others in need going to manage. What is the difference, the surgery may be moving , but there is still the same need in weston rhyn for people. Who pays for the doctors to come to the Institute?. Why should anything change to our village service , which is a brilliant one we do not want to lose.Thoughts please as how we can stop this service from being lost. Ta
  5. Ok All Any chance of updating the council minutes, July is a while ago Thanks
  6. Does anyone know if there was a landing strip near henlle during the war.May have been used for transporting planes to fighter bases.
  7. Ok all 1000 houses, is there a need. I don't think.there are many houses in the village which could be bought by locals if the price of properties carry on as they are it will be a nightmare for anyone Would new builds be any more affordable I doubt it very much .I know people who have council property in the village who have asked to upgrade ie-from a flat to house and vic versa and the council doesn't want to know,in fact people from outside the village get the property first but that's another story. Lets have a public vote on what is required regarding building as we are the ones which live here. I have lived in this parish for over 40 yrs , and am not against change , but wouldn't it be nice if the youngsters of today and tomorrow had at least some of the fields and woods to play in as I and my friends did.
  8. so there is an article in the wren saying the parish council has given the go ahead to new build outside the current structue.I beg to differ. Does any one know the actual sites in wern, weston rhyn , rhosweil and preesgween it seems a mystery
  9. Thanks all it has been a great help.
  10. Anyone know of any history of local pits in the parish? There used to be one at Preesgwene and I think there may of been one at Trehowell chirk bank. Also the sand pit at the end of the long wood anyone know what that was used for? There is a lot of info about for the chirk area but not much for our village. It would be nice to find out so it is not forgotton.
  11. Angela, a parish counciller for Weston rhyn and chirk Bank seems only interested in what happens in chirk bank . I spent over twenty five years living in chirk bank and then moved to Weston rhyn so believe I am in a position to comment on this situation. Yes it would be a dire shame if building was allowed in this area as I do believe the requirement is not needed.Would ANgela be so concerned if the building was proposed in Weston rhyn, which is part of h er parish being a local counciller.I cannot comment o this but I have a good idea. For many years Weston rhyn parish council was asking for new members and nobody came forward, when it it seemed chirk bank was an area building may take place Angela came forward. I wish she spent the same amount of effort in caring about of the rest of the parish.
  12. Ok all ,what's the opinion on this build then?.the houses are probably ok,jones bros do a good job but I miss Dave in the Cross Keys, it was a cracking local then.
  13. I agree chirk bank has enough housing as it is. to add to this however, Weston rhyn is also in danger of being spoilt by over development. Both villages ,in my humble opinion are full of enough housing as it is.Developers are providing new builds as we speak under the proviso of affordable housing, however they seem to be well over the £100'000 mark, too much for youngsters to start out.I don't know the answer all I can say is when I left my parents house in the parish in 1992 it was hard but with hard work and graft it's been ok.It was the same when I was starting out, no money in the pocket and supposedly no houses in the parish. They are there if you look ,so is there any need for new build. The new starters probably couldn't afford them anyway.Chirk bank is close to my heart as that is where I spent my childhood. There have already been too many trees removed(remember the damson trees by th rec) lets hope it's not spoilt any more.
  14. Thanks for that, shame it's not coming here but at least it's close enough for people to get to.
  15. Anyone know if the torch is coming directly through the village?. Looking at the route map it's pretty close.
  16. Excellent idea, many people have asked for allotments in the village.unfortunately it seems they don't read this site lol.maybe put a notice in the post office or the two village shops
  17. Good idea, I looked myself last week and it was out of date. The paper copy had been thrown away by mistake so an electronic copy would be good.Dont forget, however, the people who have no Internet access, the paper copy is brilliant for them.lets go best of both worlds.
  18. Perhaps people commenting who don't live in the area shoul spend some time watching what goes on and then a judgement can be formed
  19. If the problem was drop off it wouldn't be too bad the main issue is cars been left on the road all day by staff causing chaos
  20. To say that parking by the school isn't really an issue is one of the biggest understatements I have ever heard.staff leave thei cars on the road all day blocking driveways.the bus often gets stuck, even the fire engine has been stuck before now.best option utilise the school field.it has been done before when work was being carried out at the school and the area was much improved
  21. This is getting worse and worse, especially by the school and the post office area.i wonder what the x keys development will do to the situation.
  22. Great shame to see it go.perhaps if it had been better supported it would still be here
