Maggie 65 Report post Posted June 25, 2012 THE CLOSING DATE FOR ENROLLING ON THIS EVENT IS TOMORROW: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN OUR AREA, OR FEEL PASSIONATELY ABOUT SOMETHING WE HAVE HERE THEN HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO HAVE YOUR SAY, (HERE IS THE FLYER FROM SHROPSHIRE COUNCIL) Weston Rhyn Parish Community Toolkit Event Wednesday 4th July 2012 6.30.pm – 9.45 pm at Village Institute, Bronygarth Road, Weston Rhyn, SY10 7RQ Would you like a chance to influence Shropshire Council planning policy in and around Weston Rhyn? This is your chance to get involved and tell Shropshire Council what it is like to live or work in your area and what would help your community to develop now and in the future Up to 30 volunteers are being sought by the Council to put their names forward for a one-off “community toolkit event’ at the Village Institute in Weston Rhyn, being organised by Shropshire Council. This is so local people can help make sure the Council has the best quality information possible about where you live, which will guide ongoing work with communities. The Council is looking for representatives of different age groups and ideally from across the whole parish to get in touch, ranging from young people aged 11 up and their parents, and people who work, right through to retired people. The Council is keen to hear from people who may not have been involved in anything before, as well as from those already active in the community. Weston Rhyn Parish Councillors and local Shropshire Councillors Trevor Davies and David Lloyd are also involved in supporting the event. The event will follow the format of other toolkit events held in rural parishes across Shropshire, with people mixed into group discussion tables to share their knowledge and perspectives with each other and with the Council. The results on the day will be a visual snapshot of the community, arrived at using a colour wheel, and information about what kinds of activities, facilities, services and infrastructure are important to local people, arrived at through use of stickers and post-its during a midpoint break for refreshments and cakes. Teas and coffees will be available from 6.30pm ahead of a 7.00pm formal start, and as per Council practice the cakes will be sourced locally. If you would like to take part, please get in touch by 2p.m. on Tuesday 26th June 2012. If we have more than 30 people, we will draw names out of a hat at this point. We will then contact you, and you will be sent further information in advance of the event. Maggie 65 Report post Posted July 4, 2012 What did everyone else think about the toolkit event tonight? Lots of interesting points raised I thought, but seemed to be very different ideas about what was good and what was bad in the area. Certainly the lack of anything for young people came up very strongly, but there seemed to be divergent opinions about how welcoming Weston Rhyn is to 'minorities and incomers', or how good communications are. Heritage, Countryside and Wildlife scored very highly as important to most people, about the only thing that was agreed by all.
leebarnfield 30 Report post Posted July 5, 2012 Didn't make it myself but there looked like there was a few cars so I assume it was well attended. Definitely in agreement about the lack of provisions for young people. Just take a look at WR playing field and its pretty much empty green field and then compare to St.Martins and Gobowen, we are a long way behind.
