Gardner got a reaction from Robmit in Gobowen Railway Station Waiting Room on Platform Two
I may have some wonderful news for you, Rob:

My spies have been out and they tell me that a meeting was held to discuss the old station and the possibility of turning it into a "community hub". I've been informed that representatives from Cambrian Railways, SCURA, Chirk Railway Station, Selattyn & Gobowen Parish Council and Shropshire Town & Rural Housing were in attendance.

Apparently they discussed the possibility of relocating Gobowen library there, developing a café and waiting room, perhaps a ticket office...maybe even having a bridge to cross the line from one platform to the other.

Those present think they can obtain the building without payment.

Keith knew the rules for declaring vested interests. He's been under investigation since the summer. Why didn't he resign then?

I noticed something this week; that on the 12th October the Community Online forum was 3 years old and if you are wondering what the number in the Topic Title is then take a look at the figures below.

In the 3 years the forum has been live:

    242 members have joined
433 people followed the Twitter page
113 people 'liked' the Facebook page
    711 Topics have been posted
10 local businesses advertised in the business section
    3,286 posts have been made

and a whopping 311,432 views have been made to posts on the forum.

I hope that you'll agree thats pretty impressive for a local website. I also have a very exciting project in the pipeline, as things progress I will keep you updated.

So thanks for the past 3 years, I'll keep moderating the forums, posting stuff and keeping all the workings up to date and running smoothly. All you need to do is keep posting topics, adding events to the calendar and adding pictures to the gallery, because community forums aren't about me posting things its about the members of our community sharing information with each other, collaborating and hopefully making the place in which we live better for everyone.

    See you in the forums,

Gardner got a reaction from suenick in Parish Council minutes.
I live in Gobowen and I would like to extend my grateful thanks to our council for putting up the minutes of the meetings and the parish newsletter. I see this site very much as a one stop shop for gathering information on village life.

And a big thank you to Lee for putting the details on the site.

Gardner got a reaction from 3PYA in Betty's Coffee Shop to be Renamed...any ideas?
"Betty's Coffee Shop" is, I think, a chain whereas the one in Gobowen is just a name. I think they have been "advised" to rename the cafe.

I think "Twmpath Tearoom" would suit it.

SAMDev Draft Policy Consultation OSW002, OSW003, and OSW004

At present the Planning Department of Shropshire Council in their document suggesting areas of land for development (SAMDev) are proposing that there should be three housing estates on sites in the vicinity of Old Oswestry Hill Fort. One would extend to within a hundred yards of the ramparts and all three would destroy the setting of the Fort.

Old Oswestry Hill Fort is an ancient monument comparable in importance to the world renowned Maiden Castle in Dorset. We believe that future generations will never forgive us if we allow this proposed crass act of vandalism to proceed. It must be stopped forthwith. We well understand the urgent need for more affordable houses, but this delicate part of our heritage is not the place to build them.

The society's objections to these sites being developed are fully supported by English Heritage who have consistently objected to them being considered in the SAMDev process. They state that development on any of the sites will cause irreparable damage to the Hill Fort.

Please e-mail your views to planning.policy@shropshire.gov.ukputting SAMDev Draft Policy Consultation in the Subject Box. The three sites in question are numbered OSW002, OSW003, and OSW004.

Or you can write to Strategic Planning, Shropshire Council, Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY2 6ND.

The consultation closes on 28th March 2013.

We should be grateful for your support to correct this dreadful mistake

Gardner got a reaction from Maggie in Dealing with Junk Telephone Calls & Junk Mail
    Three Little Words That Work!!

    (1) The three little words: 'Hold On, Please...'
Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.

Then when you eventually hear BT's 'beep-beep-beep' tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset....you have efficiently completed your task.
These three little words could help eliminate telephone soliciting.

    (2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end?
This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and record’s the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is then used to determine the best time of day for a 'real' salesperson to call back and get someone at home.
What you can do after answering: If you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialled the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer!!!

    (3) When you get those 'pre-approved' letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope.

Most of these come with postage-prepaid return envelopes, right?
It costs them more than the regular postage 'IF' and when they are returned. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-prepaid return envelopes.

Send an advert for your local chimney sweeper to American Express... they might need one!
Send a pizza coupon to HSBC... in case their canteen packs up. You get the idea.
If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them back their blank application form... after all, it is their form!

If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you return.

You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them, and it is their envelope after all… you are just returning it!!!!

The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the post, but folks....we need to OVERWHELM them, in order to stop them.

Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice!

Let's help keep Royal Mail busy. Since the Royal Mail is saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, let's help them so they will not need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea!

If enough people follow these tips, it will work ---- maybe you'll get very little junk mail anymore.

THIS JUST MIGHT BE ONE E-MAIL THAT YOU WILL WANT TO FORWARD TO YOUR FRIENDS!!!!!!!

I saw a youth riding a mini bike without crash helmet up St. Martins Road in the dark this evening. No lights either! What a disgrace!!!

Why do these young people deserve any kind of help. All they do is break the rules.
