  1. Have any of the shops been consulted regarding the loss of parking for paying punters if the crossing does get the go-ahead?
  2. I've heard that the Fart & Crumpet in Gobowen is going to be turned into flats.
  3. Selattyn & Gobowen Parish Council produce an A5 sized quarterly newsletter. It is should distributed in Spring (mid-March), Summer (mid-June), Autumn (mid-September) and Winter (mid-December). The council is obliged to inform the rate payers in Selattyn, Gobowen and Hengoed of decisions they make on your behalf, Shropshire Council news and up and coming events. You can also enter a competition and be in with a chance of winning shopping discount vouchers. Much of this information is only of use to the reader if the newsletter is delivered, and delivered on time. So, people of Selattyn, Gobowen and Hengoed, please help me: If you don't get the newsletter, or it is so late arriving that the information contained within is out of date, please tell me below. Please give me a rough idea of where you live and I'll see what can be done...
  4. I'd heard that they were going to build a small Tesco on the site, but there were so many objections that they pulled out.

    Gobowen Station

This one is also on Gobowen Online and in the reference section of Gobowen Library.
  6. Did you know that you can claim a hefty discount on your water bill if YOU can prove that your surface water isn't handled by the water companies.
  7. @ Paul: I dare you to suggest it... (by the way, I need a fairly clear portrait photograph of you for later this year).
  8. Ha! There would be an outcry if the MUGA was lit! There's only been one booking for the MUGA since it was built, and that was for a daytime tennis game. The truth is it can be booked for matches (tennis, 4 aside, basketball) for FREE. I suppose the MUGA could be lit for periods during the early evening during the winter, but it would be an extra drain on the council finances. The surface gets really slippy with frost at this time of year. Should I suggest it to the council? (I can visualise their hard stares even as I type this)
  9. Having read the thread "Wot's Gobowen Got?", I thought I'd start this thread. We need a Doctors' Surgery. We used to have one, but it went some years ago. I'd also like to see a proper newsagents.
  10. @Carol According to the Calendar section, the Green Room will be open this Wednesday (15th Feb). Unless otherwise stated, the Green Room Youth Project should be open every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm except for the 2nd Wednesday of the month (when the pavilion is usually used for a parish council meeting).
  11. This really all stems from a colour photocopy of a photograph of the now demolished church that used to stand in the grounds of Hengoed Cemetery. I've cleaned it and sharpened it to put on the cover of the spring issue of the parish newsletter. As Lee says, there's a folder in the reference section of Gobowen library featuring old photos of the village. I've asked about copyright and the staff are going to look into it for me. If possible, I'll scan them and clean them up for possible publication in the "Roundabout" and may upload them here.
  12. ...and that lane behind the fort is Route 31.
  13. I've just seen a Shropshire Council map showing where the new crossing will be sited on display in Gobowen Library. It's very close to the junction with Old Whittington Road. It goes from the Post Office over to the Co-op.
  14. @Lee The hillfort is the Old Earthworks (Old Oswestry). It's actually within the Gobowen Parish boundary. There's also the remains a a castle somewhere in the grounds of The Meadows.
  15. Cycle Route 31 goes through Gobowen (Blimey! I'm on a roll!)
  16. Aha! We've got a golf course! ...and a gypsy camp on the other side of the road. Does the Lion Quays count as being in Gobowen. Ditto the Llangollen Canal and the bridal way?
  17. I've got another one...there's a wood turning business down in Fernhill.
  18. I notice that the railway station also has a cafe in the waiting area serving hot drinks and snacks. It's open when the station is open.

Selattyn & Gobowen Parish Council Meeting. The Pavilion, St. Martins Road, Gobowen. Everyone Welcome!   -_-
  20. Selattyn & Gobowen Parish Roundabout publish a double page spread of clubs and organisations in the area. It has done for over 2 years now. Last issue Shropshire Council included a flyer with contained these details along with others from Weston Rhyn and St. Martins. I can easily input the information into this website if we get a dedicated section. The trouble is I'm not sure that it covers every club operating. Some clubs run by, shall we say the more mature members of our community, don't promote their activities, least of all on a website.
  21. I remember looking at these when they were first posted some years ago. They're fantastic! I'll check out the library soon. My one concern is copyright.
  22. Has anyone got old photographs of Gobowen that I can borrow? I'd like to build up a portfolio of old images of the village that I could include on the covers of the parish newsletter. I'd be really interested in images of the old petrol stations with vintage cars, the railway station with steam trains, some of the old buildings, village life, anything. I can clean up ripped or tainted images digitally. Dust off your old albums and please get in touch with me via private message. Many thanks.
