  1. Does anyone have a neighbour with a teenager who plays drums (loudly) for a length of time; especially in the school holidays? Why not use 'electronic drums' with earphones? People are so unsociable when it is their child and assume everybody enjoys that child's freedom.
  2. The chances of getting a police presence, plain clothes or not, is very remote. I have thought of sending a map to Oswestry Police to remind them where Gobowen is. The only time I see a police car is when one officer visits his/her relative in Fairfield Cclose a few times a week - or is there a drug problem with the residents??
  3. Update. I have sent this link to the editor of The Roundabout requesting some support from the Parish Council in the form of an article. Hopefully this will be forthcoming.
  4. Hi C Thanks for your message and support. I hope with the input from the Council the problem may soon be sorted. There is no such thing as bad soldiers (dogs) only bad Generals (owners). Regards Geoff
  5. Hi Lee As people can use a pseudo or sign in anonymously, anonymity should not be a problem. My problem is with people that put a post here, to moan/complain/explain, and then not follow through but expect others to do it for them. There is strength in numbers. We should join forces and help each other.
  6. Oh Dear! i do feel alone as not even a single reply - is anyone following this?
  7. The story so far. One of my neighbours spoke to the main culprits in West Place about the nuisance of their dogs and for a week there was near silence. Prior to that happening I obtained a 'Monitoring Form' from the council. This duly arrived and was soon followed by a visit here by two council members on that team. They discussed the problem and went to the house to be aware of the location. At this time there was no perceived problem. On talking to the council people it was obvious that I am alone in taking this problem further as nobody else had applied for the paperwork. Why do people complain and then are not prepared to do any thing about it?! Since the passing of the above events the noise has returned to its previous levels. I am now monitoring the occurrences and intend to follow it up with the Council and hopefully get the problem stopped in any way possible. Am I still to be alone in this or are others in this area going to join me?
  8. Update 2..... The address and link below is where to get the 'Dog nuisance reporting pack' from - they also need the address of the culprits and your telephone number. I have emailed today for a pack with all the info required. Follow up will be forthcoming. Has anybody else sent for this pack? Oddly, and it is early days, the noise seems to have diminished a lot; is this a coincidence or have the culprits taken heed from somewhere? If you have not done so already, please send for the pack and follow it through. Comments anyone? 9. Update.......... Thanks for all the replies and advice. I have sent for a 'Dog Nuisance' pack from Shropshire CC. As soon as it arrives I will monitor and report back to here and SCC. Is anyone else doing the same around here?
  10. Hi Newbies Above, This is good news - to have other people on board. One of my neighbours will join us, they are just in West Place and we are in St Martins Road. There may be others who will co-operate. I will pass on the contact information this WE and then we can get something going. I agree with all the sentiments above and strength in numbers is always good. Any body else known to any of us with the same feelings could, maybe, also join us. We should keep this thread going so we are all singing off the same hymn sheet. Maybe in a week or so we could get together and compare notes - again to ensure a common approach. Good to know I am not alone!!
  11. Thank you Carol - I shall follow this up with some other neighbours and see what happens.
  12. What can be done about dogs that are allowed to bark constantly. I live near a 'pack' of dogs that are in a cage and bark almost 24/7. The owners are known to be unapproachable and violent so nobody feels willing to speak to them. My other near neighbours are at their wits end over this. Any advice will be most welcome.
  13. Again, seeing the posts above; including mine, we have an absent police force in Gobowen - I wonder why we pay for them!!!
  14. OK, so 'bleat' is a bit OTT but if we want something soon we will have to compromise. The railway route i still think is not on, nice though it may be, because of the cost. The route is already there; which I have used many times, and needs sorting. The Sustainable Transport Group did not know about it when I mentioned it at their inaugural meeting - so no change there from the Shropshire lot! Poor research as usual. Let's push for a good upgrade on the existing route (bridge or not) and make that way more useable for cyclists and pedestrians.
  15. The comments continue about cycling to Oswestry. There is a Cycle/Pedestrian way to Oswestry already. It just needs upgrading and changing to one side of the road once over the A5. The cost and impracticality of a track along the railway is far outweighed by the above suggestion; which could be completed in a matter of weeks. You/we; the cyclists, cannot expect to never encounter a vehicle when out cycling, we have to all be in the same road ststem with improvements as and where possible. Perhaps if some pressure were to be put on the 'council' to sort the existing route this ongoing bleat will go away.
  16. Parking is a problem in Gobowen, especially illegal parking. The car park for the library has been taken over by a group of nearby residents who also park on the pavement and about 10 feet from the junction. This often causes people from the sheltered housing on mobility scooters to leave the pavement as there is no room for them to pass the parked vehicles - usually large vans. This has been reported to the Police (whoever and wherever they are) but to no avail as the practice carries on. Parking outside the church on St Martins Road is also illegal - near junctions and on a bus route etc. Will anything be done? Probably not.

  18. I live in Gobowen. BT has put my Telephone Book entry in the Wrexham editition. Odd this as I think Wrexham is in Wales and Gobowen is in England! I spoke to someone at BT about this and he said that as all numbers are obtainable from the internet it does not matter what book you are in; really? So, someone wants my number and knows I live in Gobowen and checks to find I am not in the Oswestry book therefore cannot make contact as he/she does not have an internet connection. As directory enquiries uses BT 'phone books how is one to find a number. I am sure I am not alone in this and perhaps a concerted approach to BT; maybe through our local council, could alter future entries Does Weston Rynn and others suffer the same problem I wonder?
  19. Using the railway for a cycle track is an idea already in progress with Sustainable Transport Group (see link above under 'Topic'). This will be very expensive as the track will need to be fenced, as far as I understand it from The Sustainable Transport Group; whether trains run or not! There is already a cycle/pedestrian track from opposite Morrisons up the Gobowen Road. It would not take much work to extend this to the A5 end of Gobowen Road (a tarmacced footpath already exists). Once accross the A5 the footpath to Gobowen could be improved and widened to accomadate pedestrians and cyclists. The tunnel option is a good one and could be investigated, but the option above could be instigated very quickly and relatively cheaply.
  20. What are the green numbers beside member's names in the member list?
  21. "On the other side of THAT road" - surely that depends on which side of the road you are on!! The crossing is a bad move which will give more problems than it solves.
  22. The 'bus stop bit' of the layby is no longer a bus stop so parking there is not a problem. I feel the whole junction needs sorting - what, for instance, is that bit outside the dentist for and could it be removed to make the bus drivers' lives easier. As someone else posted 'trust the council to make things more difficult'. Perhaps the shopkeepers should be informed of the pending problem of parking.
  23. A zebra crossing is a bad idea, thought up by well meaning but irresponible pressure groups. Why is it bad? The proposed route is on a corner served by a bus route. The route across the road (if by the shortest route) will eliminate parking outside the Co-op and the Cross Foxes because of the restrictions imposed by the 'zig-zag' lines. This will have the effect of reducing the likelehood of people shopping in the local shops. The danger of a rail accident is very real. Motorists have scant regard for the box junction on the railway crossing and sooner rather than later there will be an accident. Because of the above motorists will park in dangerous places to gain access to local amenities. It is time for our local Council to approach the County Council and demand a proper survey of this proposal, not, as I suspect a survey done from an office in Shrewsbury. Another poster commented on the need for this crossing given that there has not been an accident in 24 years - if it ain't broke don't mend it!! Think about it. Why cause a problem when one does not exist. I urge you to pressure our Council into action for the locals and the local community, not to bow to pressure groups in order to get themselves a pat on the back.
