  1. Fixed term contract to end March 2012? Now that is a short post!
  2. No, if you look at the topic in the coffee lounge you can see the route near us. Basically in a car/bus from Trevor to Oswestry, so misses the village.
  3. Just seen the road closure signs by Oswestry. Think it starts around 9.35 on Gobowen Road by Jasmine Gardens, up Oswald Road then left on Leg Street, English Walls, Festival Square, back on to Church Street and then makes it way to Morda where I believe finishes at Morda School. Not quite sure why it takes the English Walls route and avoids town centre though.
  4. It's OsFest that weekend too....... http://www.osfest.co.uk/
  5. I am sure it wasn't all that long ago..... or am I showing my age here, that street lights went off at midnight or somewhere near. Although back in the day pubs shut at 11 and we were all tucked up in bed by then.
  6. There was a break in at Raceworld in Oswestry on Friday 4th May. Some of the items stolen were some unique bikes. Keep your eyes peeled for a KTM downhill bike, a hard tail and a BMX. These bikes are some of the only ones of this type in the UK, so if you see one or are offered one for sale it's probably one of the stolen ones.
  7. So you are after a road bike. I will keep an eye out for you. What sort of price you thinking?
  8. Great full page in this weeks Oswestry Advertizer. :)
  9. Do they publish meeting minutes?
  10. Good turnout Nigel, The article should get a bit of interest too. Is it in next weeks edition? Well done for getting it organised. :D
  11. @suenick, you need the 'froth' to entice people to get involved, and lets be honest that's why we are all there, because there is a million pound of support money. You simply aren't going to get the kind of support we are after with an invite to a meeting about research/resilience and discussion. Clearly some of the people who came to the meeting aren't using nothing but a computer because they were there in the room. I am not saying to solely output everything by computer, but don't disregard its ability to get your message out there and quickly. Just take a look at the viewing numbers of this topic..... then take a look at the viewing numbers of the whole forum, well over 100,000 in just 6 months. If many older folk aren't comfortable with ICT then we can maybe address that, and this issue with internet speed really isn't a stumbling block, we are only talking downloads of a few hundred kB and not streaming video. It wasn't that long ago that we were all using 56k dial up modems and seemed to manage.
  12. I am OK for Saturday and I should be able to draft a couple of members along.
  13. Well OK, WE don't appear to have done much so far, now I know and people more closely involved know that isn't true. WE haven't done much in spreading the word and my feeling was this could have easily been done by now with the use of a website, Facebook and Twitter as other Big Local groups have already done. I may indeed be wrong but there didn't seem to be much interest In my comment about this, even though it was supported by other attendees of the meeting. An alternative scenario could have been.... "we don't know too much about social media, can you help?" to which my response would have been yes. The efforts of the people that have given up there time to become involved in the Big Local project is fantastic, so tell everyone the great work that has been done so far. Maggie has been a star in getting really involved in this website, facebook and twitter (with some assistance ;) ) and has now set up a Facebook group for our Big Local group. It's not too difficult, and I and Community Online is here to help.
  14. @keith, the route Simple is talking of would indeed be in Gobowen and would hopefully join to an Oswestry route. The is a pathway ( not sure if its a cycle route) from st.martins so people coming from there could join the path in Gobowen and go from there traffic free to Oswestry, right down into the industrial estates.
  15. I believe the communication will be much better when they go into round 2 and can get a website up and running. It shows the public what's already been done, what is being done and where they are going. Coordination with the Community Online forum would be useful, so that a representative could post and answer any questions from the users of this forum. There does seem to be resistance to embracing modern techniques, such as websites, forums, Twitter, Facebook etc. worrying that this is not exactly cutting edge technology and THE method of spreading your message. I wonder how they will get on in 5 and 10 years time? If you think 10 years ago we didn't have camera phones and the likes of Facebook, Twitter were unheard of. My vote goes for 1 almighty sculpture, well OK, maybe 3 :D
  16. Why not have a go at Oswestry Triathlon? Entry here - http://www.entrycent...p?raceID=100725
  17. Oswestry Triathlon takes place on the 8th July. Entry is available online at http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100725 Why not have a go? or pop along and show your support. If you have any questions give me a shout as I have done it before and I am a Oswestry Triathlon club member.
  18. Well, 15th April saw the Chirk Triathlon take place so did the winter training pay off? I was 4 minutes faster than last year in my personal best time of 1hr 14mins 39 seconds. Strangely, I feel disappointed somehow.... 4 minutes on last year is a fair chunk of time but maybe I thought there was more in the tank. Right, next triathlon....... Cheshire.
  19. Thanks chaps, the team so far is just me and my computer. :D
  20. Thanks Simple.... the route takes a right turn along the road to the train station so we always avoided those 'pebbles'
  21. The position was almost a no win affair. The fact that the Kebab/Chicken place has gone and the Silo Youthclub means the main traffic of pedestrians is probably where the crossing has been positioned. I also noticed a new sign on the Hart and Trumpet side of the crossing stating not to enter the crossing area without a clear site of your exit, or words to that effect, which I think was peoples main concern with the crossing positioning.
  22. Brilliant, what an amazing place and story. Never heard of this place before. Like someone said in the video, a real jewel.
  23. Community Cafe in Weston Rhyn would be great. Would it get used? Institute would be brilliant with its Broadplace internet, and could have outside seating at the back or front. Would need decent coffee though, oh and cakes. Maybe local produce??
  24. Definitely a scam, Microsoft aren't going to ring you. Probably just a random call of numbers. Pressing the windows key and r will bring up the Run prompt and I assume they will ask you to type something in to this box. Just hang up or have a play and wind them up :D
