meandher 1 Report post Posted December 29, 2012 has anyone else heard the noisey exhaust on the 10 year old astra in hammonds place,not a blowen exhaust but an after market one.The noise level is excesive and makes the windows vibrate,I work nights but cannot get a good rest because of the noise level,there must be some law against this.Has anyone got any advice? neo 6 Report post Posted December 29, 2012 Seems to be a bit of a grey area as there doesn't be a max noise limit for production cars. There is for motorbikes, and for kit cars and specials, but not for production cars. I believe it is an offence to modify the exhaust so that it is noisier than "standard". It is not an offence for the exhaust to be noisy if that is how the car was made. So, that could possibly mean if an after market exhaust has been fitted making the car louder than standard then it could indeed be an offence as I mentioned seems to be a bit vague.
