Maggie 65 Report post Posted June 22, 2012 We are lucky in our countryside that come the autumn there is a lot of edible stuff to pick and enjoy in our hedgerows. One particularly nice fruit are the small damsons that cover scrubby and untidy looking trees, and which if you trouble to pick one are sweet and delicious. This is likely to be the Shropshire Damson, much prized in recent years among those that who are rediscovering it. So, I thought I would share this site with you, about Shropshire Damsons, listing several subvarieties of this old damson. There are some delicious recipes on the site too, so I expect to be fighting with you all to pick the fruit this autumn. Damson Day is October 7th. www.shropshireprunedamson.com Announcing Damson Day 2012 Edit Delete Tags Autopost ...

Maggie 65 Report post Posted July 19, 2012 This year I think the cry is...lets see the damsons. I haven't seen any at all on any of the trees around here. Terrible Spring and early summer.
Maggie 65 Report post Posted September 29, 2012 There is a damson day in Orleton, South Shropshire in October, despite there being very few damsons anywhere this year. Here is the link for anyone who wants to go and find out about growing, harvesting and cooking this fruit. http://www.slowfood.org.uk/slow-food-ludlow-marches-damson-day-2012/
