Gobowen Library - Does it have a future?

Recommended Posts

I use Gobowen Library on a regular basis to withdraw large print murder mysteries and the occassional softback romance but I'm getting concerned by how few people I see using the facilities there.

There's all sorts of different types of books for children and adults, puzzles that you can borrow for as long as you want, a range of newspapers, DVDs, packed notice boards full of local information, suggestion boxes, a suit of computers and very helpful and friendly staff.

But I do worry about lack of use. I can see the axe hovering over this useful public resource unless more people start supporting it.

I have heard rumours recently regarding plans by Shropshire Council to do something with out local library.

I suspect that one option under consideration is to let volunteers run it. Would volunteers be able to provide the same level of service as the current staff?

I for one would be very sad to lose such a useful and pleasant library.   Trouble is that "if we don't use it we lose it" rather like the rails links of days gone by, and now we regret their loss.
