  6. What is Community Online? Community Online, as the name suggests, was originally founded to put our community online. To give the members of Weston Rhyn, Gobowen, St.Martins and Selattyn an online resource about all that our local community has to offer, local events, shops, services, local businesses as well as useful information as bus times, what’s on and taxi hire. With this addition of a new forum, launched in 2011, our aim is for people to get to know each other better and to collaborate on, well just about anything, from local social groups and sports teams to event organising and local news, it really is up to you. However, we don’t just want this new community to be online in a virtual community. Our vision is that it will allow people to people to meet, to collaborate, to bring our community closer together and in some way hope that we can make a difference to the community in which we live and make it a better place for everyone. What has happened so far? In just 18 months the forum gained 175 members, with many followers to its Facebook and Twitter pages. Over 400 new topics have been posted and over 2000 total posts have been made, they have also received a quite astonishing 200,000 views. Members are quite diverse, from organisers of local groups, parish councillors, local newspapers and of course the general public and members of our community. It has become the ‘go to’ website for all things in the area, many events and groups have been born in the pages of the forum. So what about the local businesses? Businesses have not been allowed to use the Community Online forum as a platform to promote their business. However, there will now be a dedicated business section that will list businesses that are located in Weston Rhyn, Gobowen, St.Martins and Selattyn or can provide a service to people in that area. How do I put my business on Community Online? It’s easy, all you have to do is get in touch by email or by telephone and for a small fee of £50 you will get a business profile on Community Online for a whole year. What do I get for my fee? Your business will be set up with a business profile on the Community Online forum. The profile will contain information about your business and its contact details, and you can have a profile picture. The business section on the forum will be split into categories and your company will be listed with a brief description of your services in the appropriate section. Your listing will also be tagged so that it can be found in the forum search feature. Can my business post in the forum? No, the business profile can read items but not create topics or comment on them. It prevents the main forum being filled with adverts. Want to get started? If your business is ready to set up a profile or you would like to know more information please get in touch. Email – contact@community-online.co.uk community online for local businesses.pdf

  21. Big Local's first round of consultation carried out in 2011/2012 has been analysed and the following 6 priorities for the 3 communities have been identified. They would like your opinion on how valuable or otherwise these ideas are to YOUR community. (You are then asked to rate the following in terms of importance 0, 1, 2 or 3): 0 being not important and 3 being very important. The questions are in the Poll above, all you have to do is rate the importance. Below are the questions with some extra information. If you think the Big Local has missed anything, or you have any suggestions, just leave a reply. Help all ages to become better educated and qualified for life, both in and out of work. Help to develop "gifted and talented" young people in local schools? Provide job interview practice with local businesses? Encouage more "out-of-school" activities to help the health and well-being of our young people. Saturday afternoon films for young people? Open the swimming pool in the summer holidays? Support access to affordable housing. Set up an organisation to develop low cost dwellings? Help the area get the best out of its rural position. Car sharing scheme to help people to get to work cheaply? Produce an advertising campaign to attract visitors to our heritage sites? Support lots of new and established businesses so they can employ more local people. Set up business forum to swap business opportunities? Set up a locally available business advice service? Help those run community buildings so that they can more ably support themselves. Develop a commual marketing campaign to encourage more use of the buildings? Get solar panels on all appropriate community buildings?
