  1. I think a local coffee shop/delicatessen would be great around Weston Rhyn. The recent opening of the Woodlands Cafe/Deli in Overton seems to have worked well, it's always busy....though they don't open on Sundays. I think they're missing a trick there. The other thing I've often thought about is having an outlet for people that are veggie growers. A little "hub" if you will for people to sell any produce they've grown but can't use themselves.
  2. Driving slowly through Gobowen is a rare skill. Whenever I come through Gobowen at 25-30 (past the playing fields towards St. Martins) I seem to have people trying to see if their car can fit up my exhaust. It's as though people think they have to be doing 40 to get up the hill! I don't think the zebra crossing is too bad to be honest. It definitely needed something there, but I do wonder if it would have been better if it was past the T-junction opposite the shop instead of before it.
  3. I can only echo what's been said above really. Well done to Community Online for offering this service to the locals. Out of interest, who are "the team" behind the site? I know Lee puts a lot of work into it, but I've not met anyone else really. M
  4. I think Mabel has hit the nail on the head with regards to the benefits of this site. The beauty of a forum is that anyone can contribute and update material on there instantly. For me, the major benefit of this particular site is that it promotes inter-village socializing. Mabel; I help to run a car forum that now has around 30,000 members. It's been going for around 8 years now. The first year or so we only had around 500 members. These type of sites generally take a few months before people even start using all of the sections. Word of mouth is obviously a big part of promoting the site so it can reach its full potential. I look forward to reading updates across all three villages and hopefully the St. Martins users will sign up and post soon enough. Generally you do tend to see a higher influx of new members around Xmas and January as people have more time at home. As I say, this site is all about getting the three villages talking to each other, which I think is great for the area. Maybe an advert in the village mag is worthwhile? Also, I assume you've put a link to this forum on the St. Martins online site Suescho? As surely with all those hits it's a good way to promote this site?
  5. As a dog owner (and one that walks his dog several times a day) I do have to agree that nothign irritates me more than standing in someone else's dog's mess. It really isn't that hard to pick up poop and put it in the correct bin. Nope, it's not particularly pleasant, but it really is jsut common decency. Not picking up your dog's mess from a public area just proves that some people have a total lack of empathy. One thing I have seen in some places, but not around here, is free poop bags in shops near parks and also in one place I've been to near Warrington there was a little bag dispenser near the bin for the dog mess. Great idea, but I don't know whether it would make any difference to people's efforts. I heard the other day that in some places police can spot-check dog walkers and fine them if they don't have bags on them!
  6. I thought it was about time I introduced myself really, I've been a member of the site since it opened, but haven't posted on it yet. I'm Matt and I work with Lee in Oswestry, but I live in Overton so I'm not really part of any of the village sections of the site. I do drive through St. Martins or Gobowen (or both) most days though, so I know the area well and also know a lot of people from the area. This site seems like a very useful tool for people to communicate about local matters, so I'll be keeping an eye out for local info! All I can add is that I've been using (and moderatind/administrating) large fora (I think that's the plural of forum) for many years now, so I am very into the spirit of forum life and how beneficial it can be. To other people that have seen the site/read pages/joined but not yet posted: Get posting, it's here for you to use, it's a great way to promote local events, meet local people and have your say! Well done to those invloved with setting up the site too, the Invision Power Board software is excellent now. I find it really user-friendly! M ;)
