  1. I've seen some plans for the proposed new Zebra crossing in Gobowen that will cross the road between the Post Office and the Co-op. Although I recognise that there is a strong need for a crossing, I would advise caution. Situating a pedestrian crossing so close to the level crossing could cause a nasty accident, especially if longer vehicles are backed up onto the railway line waiting for people to cross. I would advise decision makers to approach RailTrack, the Highways Agency and the Derwen College.

  7. Has anybody noticed the problem with the roundabout in the centre of Gobowen village? There are a series of signposts on top of each other at the junction of Bypass Road (from Whittington) that are positioned down to the millimetre to obscure traffic coming on to the roundabout off of St. Martins Road. There does seem to be a problem with roundabout design in the area.
  8. I actually sent my completed survey by mail as there was a prepaid envelope with the document in some of the parish newsletters...but not all of them. And that's the problem. I'd heard from a councillor that a "letterbox" for the surveys had not been placed in Gobowen Co-op, so there's a danger of poor feedback for the residents of Gobowen.
  9. It's a lovely stretch of canal, but the path just after the Ellesmere road is terrible. It's pitted with molehills and sinking into the cut. The Montgomeryshire has some lovely stretches but I haven't been any further than Maesbury yet. I may dig a little deeper into this subject and get something published in a future issue of the parish newsletter. The Llangollen canal connects Weston Rhyn, St. Martins, Chirk and Gobowen, so it's relevant to 4 local villages.
  10. Just a quick plee for extra attention for the pavement on Old Whittington Road that runs down into Gobowen village. During the winter this uneven footpath gets very little sunshine causing it to refreeze after cold nights. In addition, the drives that lead from local properties down onto the road get covered in water from residents defrosting their cars in the morning. The pavement gets really slippery from repeated frosts and snow. As it is the main route that students from the Derwen take to walk into the village, it would be appreciated by many people if Shropshire Council would make an extra effort in keeping this section of the pavement clear.
  11. Hi Lee This is looking really snazzy, so congrats from me for putting it together.
  12. I'm not sure the survey has been distributed very well in Gobowen. It was due to go out with the parish newsletter but I didn't get one with mine. I have seen some included with issues on display in Gobowen Library, but the deadline for returns is 3rd October, so I think many people will be discouraged.
  13. There have been some welcome improvements to the quality of the tow path in Chirk along the Llangollen Canal, so much so that it is possible to cycle to Llangollen in reasonable comfort. But the quality is really poor as the canal goes into the Midlands under the main road to Ellesmere. As an off road cyclist I would love to see more investment in canal tow paths to encourage people to enjoy fairly direct routes to local villages and towns (Gobowen, St. Martins, Weston Rhyn, Ellesmere, Whitchurch etc), but I understand that funding is being cut to British Waterways.
