  2. Green Room Youth project Needs Your Help At a recent Annual General Meeting of The Green Room Youth Project it was agreed that despite the weekly sessions being well attended and the need for continuing, there is a reducing number of people able to support the sessions. Chairman Paul Drury said in his address to the group"We have all worked together to make sure the group has been meeting for 4 years and in all that time there has not been anyone in the community coming forward to assist us. We cannot continue with the committee we have and will look at some other ways of supporting young people." I'm willing to carry on with postion as chairman,I've already had one person who as shown some interest,Carol and Karl are also willing to carry on running the sesions, without whos efforts we would of not lasted 4 years, but they desperatlely need some help In the short term young people have the opportunity to attend the Monday games session at the Pavilion whilst the Green Room Youth Project look for other people to support the young people. have you the skills needed to support either the committee or perhaps volunteer for 2 hours on a Wednesday evening .If you would like to hear more about whats involved telephone Julie on 07977108071 or email greenroomgobowen@live.co.uk. The Silo Youth Opportunity Fund has funded the project over the past 4 years and is committed to supporting youth activities in the village Julie can also provide contact information to groups or individuals
  3. As chairman of the Greenroom and also chairperson of the playing field committee,I'm baffled how no one as contacted me,and the first I hear that there is a problem, is on this forum,if i had been informed early I know the organisers of the Graham Edwards Memorial, would have cleared the room for this event,
  4. The Green Room are doing Extra holiday sessions 2.30 -5.30 at the pavilion this Thursday and next Thursday ( 4th and 11th ) We will be doing indoor sports and weather permitting outdoor activities or just come and chill. All are welcome
  5. Green Room Youth Project AGM. Mon 25 Feb 2013 7.15pm at The Pavilion Gobowen The Green Room Youth Project are inviting all to attend our first AGM.We are keen to extend the membership of our steering group and would be pleased if you could attend this meeting. Young people are being invited to form a youth committee at the Green Room Youth Project to help create a vision for their weekly youth group.Every body involved with this project have all pulled together and worked with the young people to make this youth group a success. At the beginning we were doubting that the members would support the winter sessions but thanks to our volunteer Carol Pugh being a popular community leader her family and friends all, encourage the youngsters to take part.Sessions attract between 16 to 20 attendees and they all help to create activities and shape the group. Our AGM will focus on voting 2 senior young people to the committee and task them with setting up a youth forum for the group. We nominated 6 young people to support Shropshire Council Buzz project this year and they have helped to shape youth provision for the future. We have some exciting plans for this year and hope that other people in the community come forward to help us. The Green Room has been supported with grant funding from Awards For All, Silo Fund, Shropshire Council, Gobowen Area LJC and Selattyn & Gobowen Parish Council. Session Leader Julie Ruler said " It is a pleasure to help this group as they understand the true meaning of partnership working and let young people get involved. It has not been easy but the young people self manage and do not let their peers spoil activities. They come along with the intention to have fun and look after each other and that is what it is all about" To get involved please email greenroomgobowen@live.co.uk I look forward to seeing you. Paul Drury - Chairman The Green Room Youth Project

  10. Green Room Go For G-Olympics Following the success of the sports events held at the Gobowen Pavilion on National Playday the Green Room Youth Project are hosting their own mini olympic event on Wednesday 15th August at Gobowen Playingfield between 5pm and 8pm. The activities which range from Javelin to Sack Race and Footnall Keepy Uppy will be aimed at making sport fun and interesting to young people. The group have been awarded a grant of £7782 to deliver a youth inclusion project which offers 20 sports and Digital Media sessions at Gobowen Pavilion over the next 9 months.Chair of the group Paul Drury said" The project is a great opportunity to engage with young people and let them help develop activities. The event on National Playday was a good model to shape this activity and demonstated how we were not put off by the rain. Having advice and guidance from qualified Sports Development staff from Shropshire Council has helped us shape what we can deliver. Our sports coach Ross Bodie will be on hand to start the races and run the basket ball activity. The team that have been opening the pavilion since the project started last July have been pleased with the numbers coming along to the sessions. The G- Olympics title for the event was suggested by one of our youth members and considered quite appropriate. For further information or to get involved with the Green Room youth Project please phone Sian on 01691 659891
  11. Groups in Gobowen are planning a fun filled Play Day on Wednesday 1st August between 1pm and 4pm. The event which is hosted by The Green Room Youth Project will take place on Gobowen Playing. All ages are invited to take part in this community event which aims to celebrate outdoor activities. Following last year’s event the groups involved committed agreed to expand what was on offer this year. Partners which include Shropshire Council Community Action Team, Outdoor Recreation Team, Selattyn & Gobown Parish Council, Gobowen Allrounders, Gobowen Coppice Group and Gobowen Playing Field Committee have set up a range to attract all ages. The event will host a demonstration of play equipment from Safe & Sound play so that youngsters can try before they buy and give their opinion as to what extra piece of new equipment they would like. There will be a special story time for under 5’s and also a Dance workshop from Diddi Dance. Sports and Games will be organised in a mini Olympics with special prizes for all taking part. Chairman of The Green Room Youth Project Paul Drury said ”We are fortunate that all the groups are working together to support The Green Room. The parish council have helped by allowing the groups to use the pavilion and volunteers will be on hand to man our new tuck shop. Activities which get people out as a family help to build the community . The play equipment demonstration was organised by Cllr Sue Crow at the request of the Silo Central Trustees. Following the event Silo Central will look at purchasing a new item for the play area. We are all looking forward to this event and are hoping that the weather is as kind to as the volunteers and groups are.
  12. speeding through Gobowen past the playing fields and also past the school on the old A5 is a problem. as for parking on the st Martins road out side the Chapel, the gates are left open on the playing field car park with more than ample parking, but having said that parking outside the chapel does slow the traffic down, but is also dangerous. The ball being kicked out of the MUGA on to the the road outside the playing as caused a few near misses.
  13. I don't think the dogs are to blame, a dogs got to do wot a dogs got to do,it's the owners or the person with them, I think we should all take a picture with a mobile phone of them in the act, and text it to the advertizer, who should have section for naming and shaming!!
  14. I agree with all the comments on the reduced parking, but my main worry is how safe it will be to use! I also think people will park anyway, even with parking restrictions which will make the crossing even more unsafe. any comments on the zebra crossing I think needed to be at shirehall by the 14 of February
  15. Do you think people will abide my the new parking restrictions, some will but allot will not, as most people park in the bus stop part of the lay-by now, which i feel it will make the whole idea even more dangerous.
  16. good idea pay as you go floodlighting, one way around the running costs
  17. ( can you feel me staring simon ) Vehicle activated speed warning sign's to be placed outside the school on the old chirk rd and by the pavilion
  18. HI Carol Simon is right with the opening times and will be open this Wednesday 15th feb
  19. Opportunities at the Green Room Youth leaders and volunteers from Gobowen’s new youth group are pleading to young people to brave the cold next Wednesday evening and join them at their launch of the weekly sessions. The Green Room Youth Project offers a drop in youth group at the Gobowen Pavilion on Wednesday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. Young people aged 9-17 are welcome to join the group.Anyone over 17 is welcome to become a volunteer to help run the sessions. Since setting up last summer the group have encouraged young people to help shape what they can offer at the Pavilion. Thanks to funding from the Silo Central, Gobowen Area Local Joint Committee and Shropshire Council Positive Activities Fund they have new equipment. The latest edition is a reconditioned pool table and table tennis table. Chairman of the group Paul Drury said” The pool table is competition standard and we are looking at completing an art project to decorate the cover. The youth workers and volunteers that run the sessions are doing all they can to invite young people and Rhyn Park School have been a great help with getting the message out.We will work together with partners to provide a safe place for young people to socialise and expect the group to really take off this summer” The committee that run the group are meeting on Wednesday 22nd February at 6.00pm prior to the weekly session to discuss what is going to be on offer during the school holidays. The meeting is open to anyone who may have ideas or time to help. For further information pleas call Sian on 01691 659891 or email greenroomgobowen@live.co.uk

  21. in my opinion walking a dog is one of the simplest and most rewarding pleasures modern life has to offer. It helps to strengthen the bond between you and your canine companion and it helps to keep you both fit and healthy. Once dog walking was a simple pleasure.you could just take your dog out and walk along the streets and across the fields without a care in the world, he does his business, barks at a cat or two along the way and you come home. no fuss. Today however, as our society becomes more and more complex, even dog walking has earned its own set of rules. Before you take off into the rural jungle with your four-legged friend, it’s a good idea to arm yourself with a lead and supply of doggie bags. Dog fouling is a serious problem in Gobowen. As it is in the country as a whole we are nation of dog lovers there are a reported 8 million dogs in the UK and they produce thousands of tonnes of faeces every day. Excuse Me, Did You Drop Something? Not only does dog muck make the village look unsightly and causes a bad smell people can tread in it and walk it into their homes and in to local shops and public buildings, it is also a public health risk. If dogs are not treated regularly they can carry a worm called Toxocara (roundworm) which can be deposited in there faeces.Humans can get infected by faeces carrying the eggs, through soil or sand contamination the parasite can last up to two years in soil or sand even after the faeces has degraded. Infection can last between 6 and 24 months ,children between 18 months and 5 years old are Most at risk but it as also been reported in adults, this infection can cause blindness abdominal pain, coughs, headaches and shortness of breath. It is not dangerous to clean up after your dog you will not be infected by the Toxocara eggs as they are not infectious until they embryonate. This occurs at least 2 - 3 weeks after they have been deposited by your dog. Most dog walkers are responable and clear there dog mess up but a lot don’t. The best way to clear up after you dog is to use your plastic bag Invert the bag over your hand, so you can pick up your dog's droppings without touching anything directly fold the bag back seal it and toss it in a bin or take it home with you Enjoy your walk be courteous and safe!.
  22. I've also seen the plans for the new Zebra crossing in Gobowen that will cross the road between the Post Office and the Chinese take away, which will eliminate the choice of where to cross. Placing a pedestrian crossing so close to the level crossing and station car park entrance a T-Junction and parking for the post office. which gives you five directions of traffic to contend with plus cars parked outside the Co op and a Bus stop a very dangerous position. I think the money would be far better spent on traffic calming measure's like those on Morda road in Oswestry.
