  7. Three Parishes Big Local has launched a new grants scheme making £50,000 of funding available for larger community projects over the next 18 months.

The aim of the Big Grants Scheme is to support projects or activities, especially new or innovative projects, that require a grant of £501 or more and that work towards improving the Three Parishes Big Local Community, achieving the aspirations laid out in the Community Plan. The typical maximum grant value from this fund is £5000 although higher value projects that would make a significant contribution to the community would be considered.

More information is available on our website at http://www.big-local.org/biggrantsscheme, or by contacting Bridget or Andy at Qube on 01691 656882.

  10. There has been lots of interest in the Three Parishes Big Local Community Chest grants scheme since it was launched in September 2014.  So far, we have awarded 5 grants:

£250 to Good Companions, Weston Rhyn for a 'Loneliness in the Community' project

£500 to Gobowen Old Friends towards the cost of coach trips

£490 to Gobowen WI towards the cost of a jewellery making course

£496 to St John's Church towards tables and chairs for a Community Cafe

£500 to 2nd St Martins Scouts towards camping and archery equipment.

There are still grants of up to £500 available for Community groups, projects or activities within Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn.

    Visit http://www.big-local.org/communitychestfor full information.

  11. Andy, the Community and Youth Worker for 3 Parishes Big Local, is looking at how youth work can be delivered in Weston Rhyn and would like to do some street based work-meeting young people and canvassing them for their ideas and opinions, but could do with a hand.  He is looking for some volunteers to help get this going.

Ideally you need to be over 18, enthusiastic and interested in the issues young people face. Liking being outdoors and having a sense of humour helps too.

We can get you DBS checked and get any appropriate training you need, so if you are thinking of a career working with young people or children this is an ideal opportunity to dip your toe in the water and try it out.

Anyone interested can contact Andy at info@big-local.org or by calling me him at Qube on 01691 656882 during office hours.

  14. Local Trust, the organisation responsible for administering Big Local on behalf of the Big Lottery, has approved the Three Parishes Big Local Community Plan.

It is over 3 years since the early consultation phases of Big Local in Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn and the Community Plan is the end result.  The Community Plan sets out the projects and activities that the Big Local investment will fund over the next two years.

You can find a copy of the plan in the resources section of the Three Parishes Big Local website, www.big-local.org or by contacting the Big Local Co-ordinator, Bridget Laraway, on 01691 656882.  Condensed versions of the plan, which contain a summary of the key information and projects, will be available from shops, post offices, libraries and community centres around the villages later this month.

  15. Application packs for the Three Parishes Big Local Community Chest will be available from next week.  This is a fund for small grants (up to £500) for Community groups based in, or active in, the communities of Weston Rhyn, St Martins and Gobowen.

To register for your pack, or for more details, e-mail communitychest@big-local.org, write to the Big Local Co-ordinator at Qube, Oswald Road, Oswestry, SY11 1RB, or ring Bridget on 01691 656882.

  16. In early August, the Three Parishes Big Local partnership heard that our Big Local area has been successful in our application to be one of 12 Big Local areas involved in UnLtd's first intensive support programme to help develop budding entrepreneurs in the Three Parishes area.

UnLtd, the UK's leading provider of support to 'social entrepreneurs', people with energy and passion to make their world a better place, has been working to deliver the Star People programme in all Big Local areas.

More details, and information about how to get involved, are available on our website, http://www.big-local.org/socialenterpriseboost-300

  17. Each of the 150 Big Local areas has to publish a Community Profile as part of the development work for their Community Plan.  The Three Parishes Big Local Community Profile published today, 23 June 2014, serves several purposes:

    * It provides a description of the three communities of Weston Rhyn, St Martins and Gobowen

    * It provides statistical information to underpin the description that will serve as baseline information against which changes in the community over the next ten years can be measured.

    * It summarises the consultations which have taken place so far within the community.

You can find the Three Parishes Big Local Community Profile in the Resources section of our website, www.big-local.org or by following this link:

    http://www.big-local.org/images/Three%20Parishes%20Big%20Local%20Community%20profile%20June%202014.pdf

Three Parishes Big Local would like to thank the community members who have contributed to the development of this Community Profile.

  18. Big Local is keen to make it as easy as possible for people to find out about Big Local news and to get in touch with us.  Having a separate section on CO would certainly increase the visibility of Big Local on here.

To keep you up to date on our timelines, we are looking to get our plan submitted in the next month, and hopefully approved by the end of September - ready to launch asap after that.  Some elements, such as the Community chest that we have announced, will go live earlier than that so any channels that we can use to get our message out there and encourage people to come forward and apply for funding can only be positive from a Big Local perspective.
