  6. Bringing credit union services to the villages of Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn is one of the projects in the Three Parishes Big Local Community Plan. We have been working with Fairshare Credit Union to set up weekly Service Points in each of the villages and will be developing savings clubs in any of the schools and youth clubs that would like to be involved. Fairshare Credit Union are launching their service points in each of the village as follows: Gobowen Scout Hut - Tuesday 24th February 2:30pm - 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and find out more about the services that Fairshare Credit Union can offer. More information about each launch event can be found on the Community Online Calendar. A copy of the Three Parishes Big Local Community Plan is available on our website, http://www.big-local.org/images/Three%20Parishes%20Big%20Local%20Community%20Plan.pdf
  7. The Gardening Club no longer wish to run the Annual Village Show. Over the years, both of us have been involved in a number of village activities. Following a the village Millennium Celebrations, it has been very sad to see a succession of village activities stop, including The Carnival and The Quinta Bonfire & Fireworks. Yes, times change and things move on but we feel that it would be good to see The Show, or something similar, survive. Apart from wondering whether we could simplify it, we have various questions including: whether it is at the right time? whether we could split it into separate events: art & craft and flowers & garden produce? whether various organisations would take a leading part in doing things? whether there could be a tie-in with other activities such as a concert? and other people will certainly have more thoughts. We know that our parish of Weston Rhyn is an amalgam of quite distinct areas and a number of small hamlets, but we think it would be sad to allow even more erosion of the things that help build our community and identity. We also know that a significant number of people really do enjoy coming to and taking part in the show. So, if you are like-minded, have ideas, would like to support some sort of Village Show and may even be willing to give it a go, then we welcome you to join us in the Institute on Wednesday 25thFebruary at 7.30 pm. For more information, contact: Peter Bevington Pam Manley – T:774170, pam.manley@btinternet.com

  10. Andy, the Community and Youth Worker for 3 Parishes Big Local, is looking at how youth work can be delivered in Weston Rhyn and would like to do some street based work-meeting young people and canvassing them for their ideas and opinions, but could do with a hand. He is looking for some volunteers to help get this going. Ideally you need to be over 18, enthusiastic and interested in the issues young people face. Liking being outdoors and having a sense of humour helps too. We can get you DBS checked and get any appropriate training you need, so if you are thinking of a career working with young people or children this is an ideal opportunity to dip your toe in the water and try it out. Anyone interested can contact Andy at info@big-local.org or by calling me him at Qube on 01691 656882 during office hours.
