  1. If I enter my landline number is tells me Cabinet 6 in Chirk is active and I can have superfast broadband!! Check yours.... http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/when-and-where/
  2. hmmm probably not much. Currently I am getting multiple calls a day, its very annoying.
  3. I found this on the internet and thought it was quite useful advice about dealing with nuisance calls. A Big Computer sits there dialling sequential numbers. For example 07913 000001. No one answers and it does not ring because the number does not exist. The computer puts that number in its 'no such number' list, call it List A. Then it rings 07913 000002. This number rings and the computer registers it as ringing. No one answers. The computer puts that number in its 'genuine number but no one answers' list. We will call it list B Then it rings 07913 000003. The number rings and the computer registers it as ringing. So it is in list B. Someone answers. This promotes it to List C. There is then a 2 second pause, just silence, while the computer connects you to an operative's desk. The computer flashes a light on the call centre operative's desk. The operative hits a button and the call is connected to the operative. The computer sometimes (this will always be the case if you are a customer of the bank, or utility company) has all the details of the called person, that's how they know who you are. All your details come up on a screen in front of the operative. The operative has a set script to try to keep you talking for as long as possible. If you were alert at the start, you would have sensed the 2 seconds of silence, and hung up. If this is the case the computer puts you in List C. If you were not alert, or were curious to know who is calling, and you actually talk to someone, even if it is to tell them to 'go away' in, you get put in List D. The operative might tell you they are not selling you anything, just 'doing a survey'. That's a load of old toss, they are trying to sell you something. The main objective of the calling company is to compile a computerised list of telephone numbers in order of increasing value. They will then sell the lists to anyone who will buy them. List A is worth £ List B is worth ££ List C is worth £££ List D is worth ££££ So. The thing to do is, if you don't recognise the number, just don't answer. Then you will only be in list B, a genuine number. You can't do anything about that (unless you work in the IT dept of the phone company), because you have a phone. As you are in list B you won't be so valuable, so you won't get many of these calls. If you answer and talk to the operative, even for a brief second, you will be in List D and you will get hundreds of the calls. The rule is: if you don't recognise the caller number don't let it ring for any longer than it takes to press the 'off' button. Don't let it go to voicemail if you can help it because that will constitute an answered number. Certainly NEVER say anything to them. If you open your mouth they will confirm that you are a male, or a female. You don't need to give them that much information.
  4. £1000 fine does indeed seem a little harsh. The only way you could achieve this would be to add an official cycle lane/path to the route you mention. Without a path, there would be no distinction where is and isn't considered acceptable to ride on the pavement.
  5. This is the response I get..... Coming soon You are connected to cabinet number 6 on the Chirk exchange, and work is currently taking place to install the fibre network in the exchange area. We expect the first cabinets in the Chirk exchange area to be upgraded by the end of December, 2014 I did notice that BT were in the village this morning working near the box on Station road and on High Street
  6. We have always been pretty limited in Weston Rhyn and it usually comes down to BT internet being the only option.
  7. That sounds good that Weston Rhyn could 'Go Live' at the end of October. Does that mean we could be getting 40Mbps if we go with BT Infinity?
  8. Thanks for joining the forum and updating us about the rollout plan. As you may know this community forum covers the parishes of Weston Rhyn, St.Martins, Gobowen and Selattyn; would you be albe to give us an update on those areas and any proposed plans? As I see it: Weston Rhyn (Chirk Exchange) - No Plan St.Martins - In progress soon to be online Gobowen - linked to Oswestry exchange so already online Selattyn - ??
  9. I sent a message to Connecting Shropshire on Twitter and got the following response... "The rollout plan was decided so we could reach as many users as possible which means building the network out. We're still in relatively early stages but we are working out to people with lower speeds/rural areas & are updated the plan" To me an easy way to reach as many users as possible to the upgrade the more densely populated areas, its more about improving statistics than actually getting better service to the people who currently have the poor service.
  10. Gobowen will be on the Oswestry exchange so most are getting superfast.....
  11. So how come Chirk Bank users get the advantage of the Chirk upgrade and people in Weston Rhyn don't? We are also very limited in Weston Rhyn to service providers, BT internet is pretty much the only choice. What is also annoying is that I pay the same amount of money for my poor service, surely we should get some kind of discount or reduced rate.
  12. Note sure if I find this whole Connecting Shropshire, or the country upgrade a bit of a joke. All it appears they have done is give the people who probably already had reasonable (in most cases sufficient) internet speeds an even better service. People connecting to the Oswestry exchange who already had decent download/upload speeds and for most people easily sufficient for most applications are now getting downloads speeds of 40Mbps. Where if you are like me in Weston Rhyn, connecting to cabinet 6 in Chirk, we have always got pretty poor internet speeds and are currently getting up to 2.5Mbps at best.
  13. Especially if you have been used to making that journey for some years. I did notice there was a sign leading to it from the Stans side.
  14. I saw them doing that when I biked through St.Martins on Sunday, and then noticed it was all finished when driving through last night.
  15. There are a few of us Unltd folk, as mention in HERE
  16. wow, a 78 acre site..... will that all be filled with the solar farm? Who benefits from the generated energy? Is anyone going along to the consultation? I can't make it. I also saw an article somewhere where they had developed a more efficient PV collector in Austrailia. I will see if I can find it.
  17. TV has now been cleared up, as well as a few bottles and a smashed mirror. Thanks to Simple Simon for coming from Gobowen to lend a hand.
  18. Bit of a tidy up at Richie's Wood, removing an massive smashed TV, a few bottles and a smashed mirror.

  19. Simple Simon It's OK I have a van :) I can get the TV etc in there and then take it to the recycling place in Maesbury Road. Assuming its still there.... shall we say Thursday around 5.30pm?
  20. Right then folks.... who wants to come and help me clear up the TV and the glass and dispose of it properly?
  21. Free Samsung TV for anyone who wants to collect it from 'Richie's' wood. Slight damage to screen when some idiot threw it over the wall. Surely the effort it took for some idiot to drive to the wood and launch it over the bridge to smash on the ground spreading glass and its innards across a path is the same effort it would take to drive it to an offical collection point like the one in Mile Oak Industrial Estate. What happens to this now? Who would be responsible for removing and clearing up the mess?
  22. I think I recall when originally setting up the site some statistics or a case study where the people you mention had joined forums and got involved in social media had very much boosted their presence in the community and this was reflected in popularity and votes.
  23. No visit, but I got a leaflet through the door from BNP, UKIP and Green Party.
  24. Never heard of him before but found the wiki page on him interesting... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Penson Seems to have been quite involved in the area, and interesting the reference to 'Pensons Chamber' number 35 Willow Street Oswestry. Couldn't see any direct reference to Gobowen though.
